Tortoises

Sérgio Medeiros

There were four or five large basins in the back of the small garden. The small garden was the “forest”.

An adolescent set out on one of the basins. Tortoise lying down on her back on the ground of the garden. It moved arms and legs without much engagement and observed the branches and leaves.

Certain branches looked like claws and the trees wanted to pick them up from the ground. They saw them like a prostrated tortoise. Could not be precise if they were afflicted.

He tried to get out out the basin without success. The basin turned. The basin and its occupant   in the air.

The limbs were asleep. The eyes kept open.

The trees ululated.
